What should my student bring?

Students need to bring a laptop that can access the internet through wi-fi. There are surge protector power strips available at each table if students need to charge their laptop during class.

What does a typical day look like?

Students will arrive at the ASMS Makerspace, set up their laptop, and connect to the CreatiCode online learning environment.

Lessons will be taught at the beginning of class and there will be time to work on assignments before class is over.

The instructor will be walking around the classroom to monitor the student’s progress.

Often times there will be assignments not completed during class or a project that needs to be worked on as homework. Students are expected to work on this throughout the week. The instructor will be available to check on their progress remotely.

What can parents do while their student is in class?

Parents will be provided a Parking Pass for the ASMS parking lot. Parents need to have this on their vehicle dashboard when parking on campus. Parents are welcome to drop off their students and stay or leave. Students are also welcome to drive themselves to class.

How safe is the area?

The ASMS Makerspace is located on the ASMS West Campus, which is a gated area. There is a security guard that monitors the school 24/7 from the main campus and there are security cameras that monitor the Makerspace. You do not need to contact the security guard to be let in. There are other activities that will be occurring at the same time as our class like sports, band, and art which make the area very active and well monitored.
